“ You'd likely drive past this diner without giving it a second thought. But the sign reading 'homemade bread' caught my attention. After fasting for a blood test this morning, I said to T, "let's give Ace a try." And I'm glad we did. The building goes back about ninety years, maintaining its old-fashioned ambience ... or what one might consider lack thereof. The menu is more limited than what you'd find in contemporary diners, but they had what I wanted, a western omelet. Served with coarse buttered grits -- delicious! -- the omelet was better (and cheaper!) than what I ordered in Florida's popular "House of Omelets." So, dummy me, I didn't take a photo of the bread that brought me in, in the first place! (I was preoccupied with a phone call.) Eggs come with two thick slices of pre-buttered white bread toast, which I'm guessing makes excellent French toast. The diner is open for breakfast and lunch. While it wasn't busy mid-morning, takeout orders were flying out the door. Apparently Ace Diner is no secret to locals. ”
